A Bonaparte, reedificateur de Lyon (To Bonaparte, rebuilder of Lyon). Bust, to the left. On the edge of the neck, Mercié f. Lug. (Mercie made it, Lyon.) Below, r. Verninac préfet, au nom des Lyonnois reconnoissans (Prefect R.Verninac, in the name of the thankful people of Lyon.)
R. In a wreath of oak, in the middle of the field: vainqueur à Maringo (sic) deux fois conquérant de l'Italie, il rétablissoit la place Belle-Cour, desormais Bonaparte, et en posoit la 1re pierre le 10 mess. an 8 de la république, premier de son consulat, 1800 v. s. (Victor at Marengo, twice conqueror of Italy, he reestablished Belle Cour Square, from now on Bonaparte Square, and set its first stone on 10 messidor year 8 of the Republic, the first of his consulate, 1800 old style.)
